Nancy Durrell McKenna - Portrait

Nancy is an international, award-winning photographer and film-maker documenting the lives, rituals and traditions of families and communities around the world. Her work has focused on the theme of safe motherhood in developing countries, where almost 25% of women suffer complications during pregnancy and childbirth and 600,000 women die needlessly every year. This harsh reality and the fact that these deaths are preventable was the inspiration behind Nancy founding the charity SafeHands for Mothers in 2003.

SafeHands is dedicated to reducing maternal and infant mortality globally through awareness raising, education and training to ensure that every pregnant woman has access to safe and skilled hands.
