SafeHands for Mothers BIG PUSH
SafeHands for Mothers - The BIG PUSH
Every year over 600,000 women die during pregnancy and childbirth. 99% of these deaths occur in developing countries - almost all are preventable. In the year 2000 the UN set a millennium goal calling for a 75% reduction in maternal mortality by 2015. SafeHands for Mothers believes that by working in partnership, this goal can be achieved.
Safehands for Mothers' Patron, Baroness Helena Kennedy QC, is hosting a roundtable to discuss how partner organisations and individuals can achieve this millenium goal. Panel members will include:
- Dr. Gwyneth Lewis, National Clinical Director for Maternal Health
- Lord Naren Patel, Chairman of the National Patient Safety Agency for England and Wales
- Dr. Francisco Songane, Director of the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health
The event will take place at 4pm on Thursday 14th September, 2006, at University College London. For more information, please contact events@safehands.org.
